Technologically-Inclined

About Me

I am a 27-year old technologist.  I have both a bachelor’s and master’s in computer science.  At the moment, I am employed as a software development engineer.  I hope to move towards more design-oriented work as I progress my career.

There are five things that drive my life: technology, music, anime, video games, and cars.

I appreciate all types of music, but I spend the most time listening to electronic music.  My favorite is UK hardcore.  I also like hard house, underground hip hop, turntabilism, nerdcore, eurodance, and eurobeat.  I have always had an interest in musical sub-cultures and the one around electronic music is an interesting one to be a part of.  Going out to dance in it is envigorating.  The atmosphere filled with the glow of various electronic devices, the moving rhythms of technological sounds, the heat on the dance floor, the fellow technologically-inclined people, and the carefree air all contribute to its allure.

Anime engages me for a couple of reasons.  Foremost, the style of story-telling is just more naturally engaging.  The character-developing story lines can be epic in size.  And for me at least, an on-going epic story is more appealing than a short story cut to fit into a self-contained half-hour slot.  I like the artistic content that fills each frame.  And it also allows stories that would be deemed too expensive to build sets and special effects for to be told through animation.  And often times, the stories push the bounds that Hollywood is too self-absorbed to explore.

I have been a video gamer pretty much ever since I learned to walk.  They are a big part of my life and always have been.  Games can be all sorts of things from interactive stories to learning experiences to escapes to stress-relievers to quality time.  I think that I would not be as rich a person as I am without growing up on video games.  I am glad that I grew up in this age and believe that video games can enrich people’s lives.

Cars are a fairly new thing for me.  I was never really interested in cars until after a certain few driving games grew on me in my early college years.  Now, cars represent freedom, mobility, expression, mechnical marvel, and adrenaline.  I was never one to believe in form over function or function over form.  My ideal is form and function, which is reflected in my taste in cars and also my taste in motorsports events.  Rally racing and drifting are my main slices there.  I spend large amounts of time detailing my car and I have been doing all of the maintenance and modding myself on my latest car myself.

And there you have it…  The things that drive my life…
